Have you ever thought about getting a head start on sowing seeds? Well you can--it's easy, and a fun and rewarding project for all ages!
Darien Library welcomes back Advanced Master Gardener, Alice Ely, who will "demonstrate" how to set up winter sowing for your backyard or patio, with an emphasis on sowing native seeds - crucial for pollinator habitats.
Learn how to make your own “mini-greenhouse” in a bottle to start seedlings, leaving it outside until spring, when you’ll reap a dozen or more seedlings to start in your garden.
Alice will also be sharing some special seeds sourced right in our eco-region 59.
Get a head start on spring seedlings!
About the Presenter
Alice Ely, a UConn Advanced Master Gardener & Master Composter, and creator of multiple public and private butterfly habitats in Fairfield County, speaks frequently on the importance of sustainable garden practices to promote species diversity and protect habitats.
In addition to promoting native plants through the Pollinator Pathway, and educating on sustainable gardening at Westport’s Wakeman Town Farm, she serves as the Monarch Watch conservation specialist for the Northeast, and holds a New York Botanical Garden gardening certification. When she’s not out playing in her own garden, she coaches homeowners in sustainable gardening, through her business, Gardenwithalice.com
